1000 Islands
Eastern Ontario's country roads are ideal for days of exploration. Attractions between Merrickville and the St. Lawrence include Charleston Lake Provincial Park, with its lake-speckled landscape and excellent trail system, and Athens, the town made famous by its murals.
All roads lead to Gananoque, the picturesque village at the heart of the 1000 Islands. There are many ways to enjoy the scenic splendour of the 1000 islands: boat cruises, kayak tours, sightseeing air flights, and pleasure drives, to name just a few. Add seasonal art gallery tours, the Thousand Island Playhouse and the Festival of the Islands, and a holiday is ready-made.
Kingston, the first capital of Upper Canada, has a winning combination of historic architecture, waterfront trails, extensive boutique shopping, many museums and live theatre. Cycling and golf are popular pastimes between Kingston and Gananoque. Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River offer some of the best fresh water sailing in the world and submerged wrecks are popular with scuba divers. During summer, day cruises and romantic dinner cruises sail from Kingston harbour daily.
